Kitchen Update

I rent. I’ve always rented. I will probably always rent. But the kitchen I have right now is making me crazy. So over the holiday, I’ve decided I need to commit to some upgrades,…hopefully my landlord will agree. So here’s the first look at my own personal pin-board for inspiration. Now if I can just find the time….

Of course, for the small beverage area, I’m going to use Dreamwalls Color Glass in Stone in 3/4 in. thick:

And then I found a Formica laminate that was really beautiful, from their new 180fx line. They’re larger scale prints with some modern designs that made my heart flutter. This one is Travertine Silver:

The wallpaper that I’m going to add to the dining area will be this allen + roth Spanish Tile pattern from Lowe’s:

And of course, I want to use a low-VOC paint, in some lighter colors. Yolo Colorhouse makes some beautiful colors. I want to just freshen the existing cabinets as best I can, and their “Imagine” and “Stone” series should do the trick:

But if I paint, I may as well change out the hardware on the cabinets. I’ve got to get rid of all the brass country colonial. Maybe if I change them to something like these Gatehouse Nickel Handles, I won’t break the bank:

And then we’ll of course I have to add a little life to all these neutrals. So I’m going to wrap the backsplash with a shot of color. It’d be awesome to have a table topper on the dining table as well that could bring it together a little bit. I’m thinking of our Dusty Plum Dreamwalls Color Glass:

So, what do you think? Granted, you haven’t seen my existing kitchen,…but I assure you any change is a marked improvement.

  1. I love the inspiration board! You did a great job pulling it all together. The Dusty Plum backsplash will add good color to the room. Next thing you know, you’ll be out buying new bowls and serving dishes to go in the new kitchen. Let’s face it, the renovating never ends!

    • That’s the truth, Pat! I’m already going, “But I don’t really have enough to redo the floor. But if I did the floor in the kitchen, I’d HAVE to do something about that awful shag carpet in the den,…..” etc. etc. It’s a slippery slope to be sure!
