Getaway Color Ways: Santa on the Chimney

In just a few short weeks, Santa will be shimmying down chimneys all around the world! Before he does that though, he has to get in some practice runs, and what better place to do that than at Chimney Rock. NC? For the next two Saturdays (Dec 2nd & 9th), you can witness all of Santa’s daring stunts as he practices at the rock with multiple 200-foot rappels.

Mrs. Claus will be there as well, and you can meet both of them while enjoying live music, sipping hot cocoa and snacking on delicious holiday treats. This Santa is one you’ll definitely enjoy seeing; he has been named one of the “8 Most Extreme Santas in the World” by Buzzfeed, and the annual event has also been named one of the “Strangest Places to See St. Nick” by Yahoo Travel. I’m adding this event to my wish-list this year for sure!

Chimney Rock is a beautiful place to visit year round. It is located in the Hickory Nut Gorge area, a stunning 10-mile gorge located near Asheville, NC. The gorge in itself is an amazing sight to see, with bluffs and cliffs, colorful landscapes and cooling waterfalls. And if you’re looking for the perfect view, Chimney Rock is the place to go. The park is named for the large stone that is the centerpiece of the area. From the stone, you have 75-mile panoramic views of the gorge and the town of Lake Lure. The lake is a great place to unwind after a long day of hitting the hiking trails, trying your hand at rock climbing or doing a little bird-watching. During this time of year, it’s a great place to get some Christmas shopping done and enjoy the state’s beautiful mountain scenery. It’s no wonder Santa heads that way every year to practice for his big night! 🙂
